Snoopy

Where ever we go in our Mustangs, someone will ask, "Why do you have a Snoopy on your car?"  The answer is easy. Snoopy is our Mascot and he attends all our meets.

Snoopy appears on some very early SAMC flyers and some members remember that Snoopy was also the Mascot of the old National Council of Mustang Clubs.  Whatever, SAMC has enjoyed having Snoopy along for the ride for all these years.

A few years ago, the club decided we needed to embody our mascot.  Until that time, Snoopy appeared on paper and in small figurines.  With member contributions, a life-size Snoopy was purchased.  He made his debut at the June picnic breakfast on Mt. Lemmon in 1990.  Since that time, he is a well traveled mascot.  He always attracts a crowd and the children, especially, approach him as if he were Santa Claus.

Truly, he is a crowd pleaser and SAMC could not have chosen a more suitable role model.  Snoopy's personality has a certain irreverence that owners of classic cars can relate to - they don't always treat their owners with the devotion we expect.  Snoopy is a philosopher.  Sometimes he says exactly what we were thinking.  Snoopy has friends.  We all know someone exactly like his Peanuts friends.  Finally, he laughs.  He dares to laugh when we try to be serious.

Now aren't you glad Snoopy is our mascot?

Snoopy as a hobby has boosted Tucson's economy.  Many SAMC homes are filled with Snoopy collections.  Try to find something Snoopy at an antique shop in Tucson.  Nothing there!

As long as we have Snoopy along for the ride, SAMC will have fun and keep us young and happy.
